1. Media Briefings.
The series of media briefings was launched in 1999. It provides
information on sustainable development issues in one of the countries
in which we work, placed within a Caribbean context. Because Haiti
is the most marginalized country of the region, the first set of
briefings highlighted Haitian information, for use of journalists
region-wide. Briefings are distributed as a free service to the
media in Creole, English, French and Spanish.
2. Reports. These are occasional
reports from projects, workshops, meetings, courses, etc. Also this
series is distributed as far as possible in Creole, English, French
and Spanish.
3. Island Beat Radio. "Island
Beat Radio" is a weekly series of English-language radio programmes
of 5 minutes each, produced in collaboration with the Caribbean
Environmental Reporters Network (CERN). It investigates community
themes relating to environmental, health, gender and social justice
issues in the Caribbean. The series has been distributed weekly
in 2003 and 2004. It was kicked off with 13 programmes in 1997,
while another 6 were produced in 1998. It is expected that Island
Beat Radio will restart again in October 2005 and distributed in
English, French/Kreyol and Spanish.
4. Island
Beat in Print. "Island Beat in print" is a series
of feature articles on environment, health, children's rights, gender
and social justice in the Caribbean region. It was launched by Panos
in 1999, and is now produced in collaboration with CERN. The articles
are distributed in Creole, English, French and Spanish.
5. "Our
Own Voice!" and "Le
Petit Nouvelliste". Child journalists in Haiti have since
2001 brought out this series of articles. In 2002 special issues
of a children's magazine were produced in collaboration with the
Haitian daily "Le Nouvelliste". These series will continue
and participation by child journalists from other Caribbean countries
is planned.
